Rock Band 2 Planning, Anime North, Brawl results.

Our Rock Band 2 planning meeting is near, and it takes place on November 24th from 5:30 to 7:30pm in SLC2105B. The Rock Band 2 event is not the only thing being planned out at this meeting though! Ron Hoppe, last year’s gaming curator from Anime North, has contacted us and would like us to run something during Anime North which takes place in May. Planning for this will also take place during the meeting. If you would like to help out with the planning of either of these events, please come to our planning meeting.

Our Rock Band 2 event takes place on December 2nd, right after classes are done. All of the details are not known at this time (that’s why we’re having a planning meeting!), but they will be posted to the front page and sent out to the mailing list once they’re set.

Finally, our Smash Bros. Brawl event finished up last week, and congratulations to our winners.

• 1st: Blitz aka JR (Metaknight) - $100
• 2nd: Kiero (Lucario) - $50
• 3rd: Echo (Falco, Pit) - $20
• 4th: Razor (Olimar) - $10

Gears 2 Event, Smash Planning - Nov 12th

Our Gears 2 event will take place on Wednesday November 12th, from 6pm to midnight in the SLC Great Hall.

This event is Microsoft sponsored. If you haven’t had a chance to play yet, this is a great chance to. Even if you have played, you can still come on down to play co-op with others, or even for some versus play. Two copies of Gears of War 2 will be given away during this event, and there will be free pizza!

Our Smash Bros. tournament planning will also take place at around 7:30 in the SLC Great Hall on the same day.

Newsletter Correction

The Newsletter that was sent out today states that the Smash Tournament planning, Gears 2, and the Smash Tournament itself will all be taking place on the same day. For our sanity, this is incorrect.

The Gears 2 Event and the Smash Tournament Planning are taking place on the same day as stated in the email, however the Smash Tournament is taking place the week after, on November 19th. This will also be corrected in another newsletter next week closer to the Gears 2 event.

Also, here’s another reminder that we’ll be at Warrior Weekends today from 4pm until 11pm in the SLC Great Hall.

UW Gamers at Warrior Weekends

The UW Gamers will be helping out at Warrior Weekends this week, Friday November 7th. We will be in the Great Hall or MPR (Room attached to the Great Hall) from around 4pm to 11pm.

We’ll have a variety of games available, the event will similar to our Game On events. Gears 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet and Smash Bros. Brawl are all planned to make an appearance (at some point, at least). If you’ve never been to a Warrior Weekends event, this would be a great time to check out what they do. Gears 2 Planning

Planning is taking place on November 5th, 5:30-7:20pm in MC 2034.

Our Gears 2 event is next week, but before we can get to it we have to plan out a few things about the event. If you’d like to be part of the planning process, come on out. We’ll be deciding how everything will be set up, and how the event will run, including tournament information.

If you can’t take part in the meeting, you can still contribute on our forum. If you’re just interested in the event, it will take place on Wednesday November 12th from 6pm to midnight in the SLC Great Hall.

Fall 2008

We’re back, and we’re running more events this term. Here’s a brief run down of what’s happening.

All events will be located in the SLC Great Hall, and will run until Midnight on the day they take place.

• Fight On (Fighting Games only), starts at 4pm on Thursday October 16th.
• Don’t Study (Portable Systems), starts at 4pm on Wednesday October 29th.
• Gears 2 & Resistance 2, starts at 6pm on Wednesday November 12th.
• Brawl Tournament, starts at 4pm on Wednesday November 19th.
• Rock Band 2 & Guitar Hero 4, starts at 8am on Tuesday December 2nd.

3. FLCL lost his first two matches, but survived to a 4-3 record.
4. !GOD won his first four matches, but then lost the next three.
5. MJB lost 0-3 again… :’(
6. GOD? defeated both GOD and !GOD, proving himself to be the one true GOD?

Cross Tourney Interesting Notes:

1. GOD? made the finals in both tournaments.
2. HLDZ went 5-3 in the fun tournament, but washed out 0-2 in the hardcore tournament.
3. TNO defeated GOD? in the fun tournament, but only went 1-2 in the hardcore tournament.

Hardcore Tourney Interesting notes:

1. Previous tourney winner DUY lost his very first match to newcomer (and apparent powerhouse) SYLR.
2. BIGZ pulled out his usual Ice Climbers magic, and took them to 5th place again!
3. RUSH and MK0 played the most matches out of anyone in the tournament, with 9 each.
4. RUSH played 7 matches in the Loser’s bracket, only finally falling to tournament winner MK0.
5. Three of the top four winners (MK0, SYLR, SANU) were participating in their first UW Gamers Smash Bros tournament.
6. GOD lost his first match, but won his next five.
